HISTORY :
Once part of the Cathedral church, it was later a part of Urwa parish for nearly 60 years. Mr Sylvester E. Rego of Konchady handed over 1.21 acres of land in 1936 to the Bishop Victor R. Fernandes for the construction of a church. Officially, Derebail parish came into existence on Easter Sunday on April 11, 1939, carved out of Bejai, Bondel and Urwa parishes with Fr Lawrence S. D’Souza (Laus) as its first parish priest. Mr Rego also donated the altar, benches, chairs and beds to Derebail parish.
Fr Robert M. Pinto (1964-1973) constructed the present church and it was inaugurated on April 24, 1972. During the time of Fr Mark Castelino (1995-2002) the Golden Jubilee Memorial Hall was constructed and it was inaugurated on March 30, 1997. The Providence Sisters of St Anne established their convent on June 11, 1980 near the church.
Fr Lawrence S. D’Souza started the Holy Family School, Derebail in 1939. In 1936 Dr Giridhar Rao had started a school at Kottara. Later on it was handed over to William Goveas of Urwa in 1938 and it was named as St Peter’s School. Fr Laus D’Souza bought it from Mr Goveas in 1945.
