HISTORY :

Originally this parish was a part of Bantwal (Modankap) parish.  During the pastoral visit in 1970 people of Bambil and Murwa wards requested the Bishop to let them have a separate church because of the hardships faced by them: the long distance they had to walk for Sunday Mass at Bantwal and the difficult terrain.  After consultation in September that year, the Bishop gave his permission for the construction of a chapel at Bambil.  The foundation stone for the chapel was laid by the bishop on August 4, 1972 and the chapel was blessed on May 31, 1974 during the time of Fr Basil A. D’Souza.  This chapel was served from Bantwal.  Fr Victor Saldanha completed the presbytery on March 27, 1982.
The new church built in Gothic style by Fr Peter Noronha of Bantwal was inaugurated on January 31, 1999.  On June 5, 1999, Bambil attained the status of an independent parish and Fr Michael Lobo became its first parish priest.
This church has 35 acres of Diocesan land part of which had been converted into a farm by Fr Victor Saldanha.  During Fr Peter Noronha’s time as parish priest of Bantwal (1995 – 2003), 500 arecanut trees and a large number of pineapple suckers were planted.

Location:

This church is  situated  at a distance of 32 kms from Mangalore and about 6 kms from B.C. Raod and is surrounded by Belloor, Loreto, Allipade, Agrar and Bantwal Modankap parishes.
