Pompei Shrine, Urwa

While the historic Urwa parish is officially dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, it became a prominent pilgrimage destination after Rev. Fr. A.J. D’Souza introduced the devotion to Our Lady of Pompei between 1915 and 1930. He brought the sacred images directly from Rome, enshrining them on a side altar. Today, the shrine is renowned for its solemn annual feast in December, welcoming massive crowds of devotees irrespective of caste and creed.

St Joseph Vaz Shrine, Mudipu

Perched on the scenic Mudipu hill, this shrine marks the exact historical site where St. Joseph Vaz—the Apostle of Kanara and Sri Lanka—miraculously survived an attempt on his life in 1684 [1.3.2]. St Lawrence Shrine, Bondel

Nestled in a serene area originally named “Bon Valle” (Good Valley) by a visiting French missionary in 1873, this beloved shrine is dedicated to the martyred St. Lawrence. Since officially becoming an independent parish in 1923, it has grown into a vital spiritual sanctuary for the Mangalore diocese. Known for its deeply prayerful atmosphere, quiet adoration chapel, and beautifully restored architecture, the shrine draws massive crowds of devotees of all faiths. Pilgrims flock here year-round—and especially during the grand annual feast in August—seeking spiritual renewal, healing, and the powerful intercession of St. Lawrence.
