On December 7, 1999, Bannur parish priest Carved out from Puttur parish with 170 families.  This is the first parish in the diocese run by the Fransciscan priests.   The hall offered by the Souza brothers of Puttur was used for Mass and other religious services till they had their own church.  The Franciscan Fathers purchased 2 acres of land for the construction of the church.  The Bishop of Mangalore laid the foundation stone for the new church on July 25, 2000.  The church was blessed on June 13, 2002 on the feast day of St. Anthony of Padua.
