HISTORY :
Once a part of Mogarnad parish, Borimar was made a chaplaincy on September 4, 1893 by Bishop Nicholas Maria Pagani and put under the charge of Fr Camillus J. Rego of Puttur. A thatched shed erected at Gundiyadka, at a distance of 5 kms from the present church, was used as a chapel. As this chapel was found inconvenient, a new one was built at the present site which was blessed by Bishop Abundius Cavadini on November 7, 1898.
In 1904, Borimar became an independent parish with Fr Gregory I. D’Souza as the first parish priest. Fr Denis R. Lewis (1906-1913) built the façade and the present presbytery. The new church building constructed by Fr Leo Carvalho (1931-1938) was blessed by Bishop Victor Fernandes on November 20, 1934. A Bethany Convent at Borimar was also established at that time.
Fr Lawrence Martis constructed the new belfry in 1983, did the electrification of the church and presbytery and provided the sound system. Fr Peter Fernandes built a chapel in 1993 at Shambur ward which later on became the parish of Shambur.
Frs Gregory I. D’Souza and Fr Denis R. Lewis were instrumental in starting a temporary school in an existing building near the church. Fr Peter Fernandes constructed the new building for St Joseph’s Higher Primary School.
Rev. Fr Michael D’Silva is the 19th parish priest of Borimar.
