HISTORY :
Once Cordel formed a part of Milagres, Mangalore. The foundation stone for the church was laid on September 14, 1873 by the French Missionary, Rev. Fr Alexander Dubois, prominently known as Frad Saib who was then the parish priest of Milagres church, Mangalore. He called this place Cordel which in French language means abode of heart. He died on December 11, 1877 leaving the church building half-done. As a result of the efforts of Fr Antony Goveas of Milagres, Cordel was erected into a parish by Bishop Abundius Cavadini on May 31, 1904, with Fr M.P. Colaco as the first parish priest. Fr J.Salvadore C. Vas (1911-1923), the second parish priest modified the ambitious and unfinished church plan and during his time the present church was built under the supervision of Fr M. Lunazzi sj. The new church was blessed by Bishop Paul Perini on January 30, 1912.
