Angelore, Mangaluru | 23 June 2025

The Word of God drew a record crowd at Guardian Angel Church, Angelore, as 260 participants gathered for the launch of the Bible course “God With Us,” centred on the Gospel of Matthew. The course was inaugurated on 23 June 2025, marking a significant moment in the parish’s faith formation journey.

The inauguration began with the solemn enthronement of the Holy Bible. Leading the ceremony were Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro, Parish Priest; Rev. Fr Naveen Pinto, Resident Priest; Rev. Dr Vincent Sequeira, Secretary of the Diocesan Commission for Bible; Mr. Paul Rodrigues, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC); Ms. Renita Menezes, Coordinator of Parish Pastoral Commissions; Mrs. Jacintha Pinto, Convener of the Liturgy–Word of God and Proclamation Commission; Sr Preema Dias; and Mr. Joachim Pinto. A prayer service followed the enthronement, setting a reflective and reverent tone for the course.

In his welcome address, Fr Fredrick Monteiro praised the overwhelming response and deep spiritual hunger of the faithful. He noted that such enthusiastic participation is a sign of a vibrant, Word-centred parish community.

The session then moved into a rich introductory presentation by Rev. Dr Vincent Sequeira. Known for his engaging style, Fr Sequeira highlighted the distinctiveness of the Gospel of Matthew compared to the other Gospels. He emphasised the Gospel’s deep roots in the Old Testament and drew attention to how Matthew presents Jesus using Moses Typology, a theme central to understanding this Gospel.

The course, which runs over ten sessions, will be held every Monday and Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The enthusiastic response signals a growing thirst for scriptural depth and formation in the parish—a hopeful sign for the future of Bible-based catechesis.
