MANGALURU, DEC 23: “During the joyful events in our families, we say to our loved ones: ‘I love you’ What does it mean? It means, ‘I want you to live’. Since the whole of humanity is our family, how many people can we say: ‘I want you to live’? asked Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Sladanha, Bishop of Mangalore during the Christmas celebration with media and journalists held on December 23, 2021 at Bishop’s House, here in Mangalore, Today.
With a grateful heart, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha welcomed the gathering and shared the joy of Christmas with journalists by cutting the Christmas Cake. Dr John Edward D’Silva, Secretary, Diocesan Pastoral Parishad, Rev. Dr J B Saldanha and Mr Roy Castelino, PROs of Diocese of Mangalore and Mr. Elias Fernandes, Director of Four Winds Mass Communication were present among the many journalists.
Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha said, “Today, the greatest tragedy is that the culture of indifference is growing. It is worse than hate. If we love someone, that person has a place in our heart and if we hate the person, he will be in our mind. But if we foster indifference, that person does not exist for us. We do not care whether he is alive or dead. This is the danger we are in, for many promote division, violence and death.”
Bishop also said, “Christmas Invites to love and give up hate and indifference”. He said that Jesus teaches us by example to care and share, to give and forgive the enemies, and never to hate anyone. Hatred and indifference will burn us before it burns others. It destroys our conscience. It destroys the goodness within us. “We become ‘dead people walking’, a kind zombies,” the bishop said.
Bishop further said that the name “Jesus”, means “God saves’ ‘. Jesus saves us from our sins and death. He saves us from hatred and violence. He promotes universal love and fraternity. We are fortunate that we live after his arrival.
Swatchch Bharat to Swachch Mind and heart
Bishop Peter Paul said, “These days, we are talking about “Go green” for creating a Swachch Bharat. Can we foster a Swachch mind and pure heart without hatred and indifference? Let this Christmas be for us, a challenge to foster a pure heart so that we see God in our neighbour and in nature. Let the people experience great joy in our presence.”

ಕ್ರಿಸ್ಮಸ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಕನ್ಯಾ ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮನವರ ಮೂಲಕ ಆದ ದೇವ ಪುತ್ರ ಯೇಸುಕ್ರಿಸ್ತರ ಜನನ ಎಂಬುದು ಇದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಏಕಮಾತ್ರ ಹೊಸ ವಿಷಯ. ಇದೊಂದು ಮಗದೊಮ್ಮೆ ಪುನರಾವರ್ತನೆಗೊಳ್ಳದ ಅನನ್ಯ ಘಟನೆ. ಆ ಪವಿತ್ರ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಂದು ಕುರುಬರಿಗೆ ದೇವದೂತನು ಹೀಗೆಂದನು “ಇಗೋ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಪರಮಾನಂದವನ್ನು ತರುವ ಶುಭ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ನಿಮಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ”. ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಮಾನವ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಅನೇಕರು ಅನುಭವ ಹೊಂದಿದರು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂತೋಷಪಟ್ಟರು.
“ಜೀಸಸ್” ಅಥವಾ “ಯೇಸು” ಎಂದರೆ “ದೇವರು ರಕ್ಷಕರು” ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಯೇಸು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಪಾಪ ಮತ್ತು ಮರಣದಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ದ್ವೇಷ ಮತ್ತು ಹಿಂಸಾತ್ಮಕ ಮನೋಭಾವದಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಸಾರ್ವತ್ರಿಕ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹೋದರತೆಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರ ಆಗಮನದ ನಂತರ ನಾವು ಜೀವಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಪುಣ್ಯ. ಯೇಸು ಹೀಗೆಂದರು “ನೀವಾದರೂ ಭಾಗ್ಯವಂತರು, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ, ಕಿವಿಗಳು ಕೇಳುತ್ತವೆ, ಎμÉ್ಟೂೀ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಸತ್ಪುರುಷರು ನೀವು ನೋಡುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದಕ್ಕೂ, ನೀವು ಕೇಳುವುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದಕ್ಕೂ, ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ನೋಡಲು ಇಲ್ಲ ಕೇಳಲು ಇಲ್ಲ”.
ನಮ್ಮ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂತೋಷದ ಸಂಭ್ರಮಗಳ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಆತ್ಮೀಯರಿಗೆ I love you “ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ” ಎನ್ನುತ್ತೇವೆ ಹಾಗೆಂದರೇನು? ಹಾಗೆಂದರೆ I want you to live “ನೀವು ಜೀವಿಸುವುದು ನನಗೆ ಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ” ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ. ಮಾನವ ಜನಾಂಗವೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಕುಟುಂಬವಾಗಿರಲು ನಾವು ಎಷ್ಟು ಜನರಿಗೆ “ನೀನು ಜೀವಿಸುವುದು ನನಗೆ ಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲು ಶಕ್ತರಾಗುವಿರಿ? ಇಂದಿನ ಬಹು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಅಪಾಯವೆಂದರೆ ಉದಾಸೀನತೆಯ, ನಿರ್ಲಿಪ್ತತೆಯ Indiffrence ಸಂಸ್ಕøತಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತ ಇದೆ. ಇದು ದ್ವೇಷಕ್ಕಿಂತಲು ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದು. ನಾವು ಯಾವುದೇ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುವುದಾದರೆ ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾನವಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಾವು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ದ್ವೇಷಿಸುವುದು ಆದರೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾನವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಾವು ಉದಾಸೀನತೆಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ನಮಗೆ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲದಂತೆ. ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಬದುಕಿದ್ದರೂ ಸತ್ತರೂ ನಾವು ಗಮನಿಸುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಇದು ನಮಗಾಗಿರುವ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಅಪಾಯ. ಹೀಗೆ ಅನೇಕರು ವಿಭಜನೆ, ಹಿಂಸೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಯೇಸು ತನ್ನ ಜೀವನದ ಆದರ್ಶದ ಮೂಲಕ ಇತರರ ವಿಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಳಜಿ ವಹಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಹಂಚಿ ಬಾಳಲು, ವಿರೋಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಲು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಯಾರನ್ನು ದ್ವೇಷಿಸದಿರಲು ಕಲಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ದ್ವೇಷ ಮತ್ತು ಉದಾಸೀನತೆ ಇತರರನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿ ಉರಿಸುವ ಮೊದಲು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಬೂದಿ ಮಾಡುವುದು. ಅದು ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯನ್ನು ನಾಶಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದು ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಒಳಿತನ್ನು ನಾಶಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನಾವು ನಡೆದಾಡುವ ಸತ್ತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಾಗುತೇವೆ.
ಸ್ವಚ್ಛ ಭಾರತ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ “ಗೋ ಗ್ರೀನ್” ವಿಚಾರವಾಗಿ ಈ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ಮಾತನಾಡುವುದಿದೆ. ದ್ವೇಷ ಮತ್ತು ಉದಾಸೀನತೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ, ಸ್ವಚ್ಛ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮತ್ತು ಶುದ್ಧ ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ? ಈ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ಮಸ್ ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಒಂದು ಶುದ್ಧ ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಲು ಒಂದು ಪಂಥಾಹ್ವಾನವಾಗಲಿ. ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ನೆರೆಕರೆಯವರಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಕಾಣಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಲಿ. ಈ ತಮ್ಮ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇತರರು ಪರಮಾನಂದವನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಲು ಸಾದ್ಯವಾಗಲಿ.
