The Annual Education Scholarship Distribution Programme of CODP for the year 2015-2016 was held on May 28th 2015 at CODP conference hall. The programme started with a prayer song followed by welcome of the chief guest of the programme Vicar General Msgr. Denis Moras Prabhu.
The Director of CODP Fr. Oswald Monteiro, in his welcome speech said that CODP represents the church of the poor and for the poor. However mere charity doesn’t help development, rather we should make use of assets in and around us. Therefore he asked the people to avail Govt. facilities and develop themselves. He quoted the Nobel laureate Mr. Mohammad Younis who dreamed of making poverty a museum piece.
Msgr. Denis Moras Prabhu then distributed scholarship aid to beneficiaries. In his speech he explained his own life story saying that though his family were agriculturist and poor, they brought him up by giving good education up to 2nd PUC. After PUC he joined seminary. When he was a priest he taught in college and in many other institutions. He also said that it was his dream to start an Engineering college in Mangaluru. His dream came true with the support of Bishop of Mangalore. He then appreciated the dream of the beneficiary parents to educate their children and encouraged the students.
Mrs. Shanthi D’Souza explained about various government schemes for minorities and how to get them. A total number of 107 applicants were given the aid scholarship on this day. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Ms. Venisha Saldahna.
