Sep 18 : The Karnataka Chapter of the Indian Psychiatric Society conference was inaugurated on 18th September 2021 which was in association with Father Muller Medical College, Mangaluru. The 31st Annual Conference of the IPSKC centred on the theme of “Child Mental Health-Changing Horizons”.
Dr Supriya Hegde, the organising chairman welcomed the gathering followed by a presidential address from Dr Shripathy Bhat, president of IPSKC. He was joyous to be back to his former institution and felt elated at the recent developments of the medical college and hospital. Even during this crisis did the management of FMCI support educational causes and bring in people together to learn and grow more. The organisers though had the hybrid platforms of online and offline mode it was a beautiful site to see his peers under a single platform.
Dr Gautham Saha, President of the Indian Psychiatry Society felt proud of the Karnataka Chapter for organising this conference and for choosing an apt theme which needs to be discussed and deliberated upon for the future of the country.
Rev Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto Rector, St Aloysius Institutions was the chief guest who spoke on behalf of educationist who worries about the country’s future, its children. The pandemic has brought with it good and bad but for children it has devastated their learning, decreased their attention, increased screen addiction, decreased socialization, caused hyperactivity and depression and on the other side has led to child abuse.
Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions felt elated at the conference being held in its venue and sought blessings of the Almighty on everyone, so that those who can help the most (psychiatrist) help the community at large.
Various awards were instituted for the activities conducted by the Karnataka Chapter and honours were bestowed on eminent members of the Psychiatric community.

Secretary, IPS KC; Management of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions and various faculty of psychiatry from around India were present for the inaugural in both online and offline mode.
This hybrid conference was the missing link in the association’s learning and propagation curve to cultivate better and statesmen like Psychiatrist.
