MANGALORE, June 24, 2025:
The Pastoral Institute of the Diocese of Mangalore successfully conducted its two-day Ongoing Formation for Junior Clergy at Shanthi Kiran, Pastoral Institute, Bajjodi, from 23rd to 24th June 2025. The formation programme was held under the guidance of Most Rev. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, and Fr. Santhosh Rodrigues, Director of the Pastoral Institute.

Addressing the priests during the inaugural session, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha emphasised the need for constant growth in priestly life. “When priestly life becomes stagnant, it can become infectious,” the Bishop noted, encouraging the clergy to embrace lifelong learning and renewal. “We must constantly form ourselves to form a synodal church — one that listens, walks together, and strives to build a lively, engaged community,” he added.

The programme, attended by priests ordained between 2016 and 2025, included sessions on diverse topics such as the proclamation of the Gospel, diocesan decrees and policies, the history of the Diocese of Mangalore, and the legacy of Pope Francis. Rev. Dr. Praveen Joy Saldanha, Msgr. Maxim L. Noronha, Rev. Francis Rodrigues, and Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha facilitated these insightful sessions.

Additionally, Fr. Anil Ivan Fernandes, Director of Canara Communication Centre, gave a short orientation on the Catholic Connect communication platform, which will be utilised by the priests in their pastoral and communication ministry to stay updated and connected.

The two-day programme offered a valuable opportunity for the junior clergy to reflect on their ministry, grow in mutual understanding, and equip themselves to better serve the people of God in their pastoral communities.
