MANGALURU: The Diocese of Mangalore officially ushered in the ‘Year of Children 2026’ on Sunday, January 11, with creative and heart-warming inaugural ceremonies held across various parishes. The initiative, aimed at prioritizing the spiritual and social well-being of children, saw a synchronized unveiling of the official logo following the morning Eucharistic celebrations.
At St Francis Xavier Church, Bejai, the inauguration took a distinctive turn as the children of the parish took center stage. In a symbolic gesture of belonging and participation, the children themselves inaugurated the year by sticking their individual photographs around a large display of the ‘Year of Children’ logo. This personalized frame, capturing the vibrant faces of the parish’s youth, will be permanently displayed in the church portico throughout 2026 to serve as a constant reminder of the community’s commitment to its youngest members.
Similarly, Guardian Angel Church, Angelore, hosted a unique gathering that brought together children and their families in a special show of solidarity. Across the diocese, Parish Priests and local organizing committees emphasized that this year would be dedicated to pastoral care, value-based education, and providing children with a stronger voice within the church community.
The logo, which was unveiled simultaneously in all parishes, represents the protection, growth, and joy of childhood under the guidance of faith. The Diocesan clergy noted that 2026 will feature a series of events, workshops, and spiritual programs specifically tailored to nurture the next generation.
