YET Inauguration, Felicitation and Blessing at CODP

Aug 11, 2016: The inauguration of YET programme for class 8th students for the year 2016-17 commenced with the Eucharistic Sacrament (Holy Mass) at 9.00 am in CODP.  The orientation programme began at 10.00 am with a Prayer by CODP office staff.  Mrs. Venisha welcomed Rev. Fr. Alwyn Serrao, Rev Fr. Oswald Monteiro, Director of CODP and Rev. Fr. Vernon Vaz.

The Director of CODP, Rev. Fr. Oswald in his introductory speech welcomed Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese. He felicitated the bishop on the occasion of his triple jubilees in 2016. (May 15th China/ Emerald jubilee of Episcopal ordination, June 21st Platinum Jubilee of life and December 3rd being the Golden jubilee of Priesthood).  After this he explained the background and the basic objectives of YET programme. He said that the objective of Career Advancement Programme (CAP) is to “motivate and guide our youth to go for higher education and get into Government jobs. He mentioned that already three batches have been, attending the training and it is for the 4th batch of YET programme that inauguration cum orientation is held today.

The Resource Person Rev. Fr. Alwyn Serrao in his speech congratulated all the selected students and their parents.  Then he explained to the students in detail how the YET programme will be conducted by CODP. Further he explained the contents of the syllabus which will be covered and how the classes will be conducted for the students. He then motivated the students to take up the jobs in Government departments/offices.

Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, thanked CODP for felicitation and explained to the students that it is not enough just to be professionals like Doctors, Engineers, Nurses or other professions and plan to go abroad in search of jobs, but they should attain higher education and try to get into government jobs to serve the community and the society.  Further he said that parents are equally responsible to motivate their children to take up government jobs. He gave the example of how our community was helpless during the church attack in 2008.

Before leaving the Bishop blessed the new vehicle of CODP.  And there after planted a Mallika mango sapling to commemorate his triple jubilees. After this Mrs Venisha addressed the parents and children and explained practical tips regarding YET programme. The programme came to an end at 12 noon.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Fr Oswald Monteiro.
