Mangaluru, Feb 15: The Bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza has appointed Fr Mathew Vas as diocesan spiritual director for Catholic Sabha with effect from February 2016.
Earlier to Fr Vas’s appointment, Fr J B Crasta was serving as spiritual director for a period of 4 years.
Fr Mathew Vas is presently serving as the parish priest of Angelore church. In addition to this present responsibility, he will be serving as spiritual director of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru diocese for a term of three years.
Fr Mathew Vas has served as the director of Canara Communication Centre, parish priest of Bela and Udupi parishes.
Catholic Sabha in Mangaluru diocese was founded in 1979 when present Udupi and Mangaluru dioceses were not divided. Presently Mangaluru diocese Catholic Sabha has 102 parish units in 12 deaneries. Fr Stanley Pereira, Fr Walter D Mello, Fr Vincent Monteiro, Fr Francis Lewis and Fr J B Crasta have served as spiritual directors since inception.
