Mangaluru: Graduation Ceremony – 2020 held at Father Muller Charitable Institutions

Mangaluru, Jan 24 : The Graduation Ceremony of Father Muller Medical College, Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences and Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing took place on Friday, 24th January 2020 in Father Muller Convention Centre with much fanfare.

404 graduates from various courses such as MBBS, PG Degree/Diploma, M.Ch., Physiotherapy, Hospital Administration, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Radiotherapy and Speech and Hearing will receive their certificates on that day.

The Chief Guest of the graduation was the Director, St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, Rev Fr Paul Parathazham.

Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese and President of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, presided. Around two thousand people consisting of graduates, post graduates, staff, parents, alumni and guests will be witnessing these celebrations.

The Director of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions Rev Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho welcomed the dignitaries on the dais and the graduands and their family. It’s a great honor to be part of this momentous occasion and deemed it a pleasant task of welcoming the gathered. He also introduced the chief guest graduands. He acknowledged the presence of his brethren in the administration (associates) who shouldered the administrative work, the Sisters who run the medical hospital and colleges, the Management committee members, the Advisory committee members and all the faculty and staff.

The Father Muller Medical College (UG programme) 20 years of its fruitful existence was celebrated with the ushering of the Vicennial celebrations by the President FMCI who also launched the year long celebrations.

Father Muller Charitable Institutions is in its 140th year of fruitful service to humanity in the area of Healthcare. The Institution has seen its wondrous growth by the blessings of the Almighty.

Principal/Dean of the Father Muller Medical College presented his college annual report. He was extremely happy to announce the results of the institution. The new courses in Medical Laboratory Technology, MSc Anesthesiology and ImagingTechnology, DM nephrology, neurology with 2 seats each – the first of its kind in Mangalore. New courses are awaiting the affiliation. He mentioned the various staff who brought accolades to the institutions through their higher degree . Students who were awarded during the year 2019 were all mentioned, the research grants too got by the staff and students were applauded.

The Adrenaline event, a national level event has brought in a national limelight to the institution. The bioethics deliberations were also held and various CME and conferences were held. Various students were selected by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences for various sport events. He also acknowledged the support of the faculty, staff, students and guardians of the students.

The Principal, Professor Akhilesh PM of the Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing (FMCOSH) read out the annual report of the college which has successfully sent out 10 batches of graduates. “I am happy to inform you Mangalore University has accorded permission to start post-graduation in M.Sc. Audiology and M.Sc. Speech Language Pathology Courses and hoping to start PhD programme in near future”.

Fr Paul Parathazam in his guest speech advised the graduates to be the best of themselves. He quote the famous College of Oxford address by Sir Winston Churchill, “Never give in” which was the shortest and most thought provoking speeches in history. He referred to people like Bethoven and Klein, that even in their disability they showed perseverance and to learn and made the most outstanding contributions to humankind.

In his presidential address, Most Rev Peter Paul Saldanha said that at every cost and situation the dignity of the human life should be maintained and the humanness in oneself should not be diminished. As medical profession they should be the salt of the earth, as Lord Jesus Christ said in Gospel of St Mathew. The medical profession should add the taste of life to the suffering and the terminally ill. Life should be safeguarded from womb to tomb.

The graduates were called onto the dais to receive their certificates by their respective principles. Dr Padmaja Udaykumar, Vice Principal FMMC, read out the medal winners of the RGUHS and Mangalore University

Dr Shanawaz N, won the FMCI Presidential medal for the best outgoing student of the Father Muller Medical College. He received a Gold Coin and the president’s merit certificate.

The thank you address was read out by Rev Fr Ajith B Menezes, Administrator FMMC, who wholeheartedly thanked everyone to make the event a wonderful event for the graduates and the institution.

Rev Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, Administrator FMMCH, Rev. Fr Slyvester, Administrator FMHT, Dean FMMC – Dr J P Alva, Vice Dean- Dr Padmaja Udaykumar, Principal FMCOSH – Prof Akhilesh PM, Medical Suprintendant – Dr Udaykumar were present on the dais. A large crowd witnessed the event with huge media presence.

The Graduation was preceded by a Thanksgiving Holy Eucharistic celebration on 24th January 2020 at 8 a.m. in the St Joseph’s Chapel at the FMCI campus offered by Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese and President of FMCI.

The graduation ceremonial event was compered by Dr Lenon D’Souza, Interventional Radiologist, FMMCH and Ms Ashmita Parao, Physiotherapist, FMMCH.
