MANGALORE, MARCH 20: In a gathering imbued with the spirit of Unum Presbyterium, priests from across the parishes and institutions within the Diocese of Mangalore convened for their annual Pastoral Consultation on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at St Antony’s Charity Institution in Jeppu, Mangalore.
Led by the diocesan authority, including the bishop, vicar general, chancellor, and financial administrator, a total of 225 priests—comprising both diocesan and religious figures serving in the Mangalore diocese—engaged in discussions surrounding key pastoral issues raised by various deaneries.
Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, emphasized the occasion’s significance, stating, “It is an opportunity for all diocesan priests to convene, fostering collaboration and active participation within the diocese for a more effective ministry.”
Over the course of two days, attendees delved into a range of pastoral matters, culminating in two General Body meetings focused on the Parish Union Trust and the Priest Aid Fund (PAF), where new nominees for the fund were selected.
In his concluding remarks, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha provided an overview of the diocese’s initiatives, offering necessary guidance and information. He remarked, “We are called to emulate the pastoral heart of Jesus Christ, continuously honing our spiritual, administrative, and relational skills. Though challenges abound, our faith assures us that divine strength will empower us on our journey.”
Rev. Fr Joseph Martis, the consultation coordinator, expressed gratitude for the collective efforts and participation.
