MANGALURU/SHIMOGGA, NOV 16: The young priests of Karnataka region ordained between 2011-2021 attend ‘Young Clergy Meet -2021’, a three day ongoing formation at Sannidhi, Pastoral Centre of Shimoga diocese.
The programme began on November 16, 2021 and will continue till November 18. Almost 130 young priests from Catholic, Syro-Malabar and Syro Malankara dioceses of Karnataka are taking part in it.
The meet focuses on the Synodal Church, Canonical Sanctions and Pastoral life of Young priests.
Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Chairman of Regional Commission for Vocation, Formation, Priests and Religious along with Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao, SJ, Vice Chairman of Regional commission for Vocation, Formation, Priests and Religious inaugurated the Young Clergy Meet
On the first day, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha delivered his keynote address on the vision of Pope Francis on Missionary Church and presented his talk on “A Synodal Church: Commission, Participation and Mission.Bishop Francis Serrao spoke on the present challenges of priests.
The meet will include a study on ‘Pope Francis’ amendments on the penal laws of the Church – Book VI of the Code of Canon Law’ which will be presented by Rev. Dr Victor George D’Souza. Besides, there will be sharing of the pastoral life of priests and panel discussion on the role of the Church in promoting lay leadership, which will be chaired by lay faithful leaders of the region.
