Tanzania, Apr. 27: The Mangalore-Africa Mission (SMAM) has undertaken Corona Virus awareness campaign on the loud speakers, providing hand wash running water, soap, sanitizers, homemade face masks as well as awareness leaflets at the various weekly markets at Kilimanjaro, Tanzania East Africa on 24th of April 2020.
Rev. Fr. George Crasta, Hostel director of St. Joseph Boys’ Science Secondary School took the charge of the COVID-19 awareness campaign along with two St. Joseph school teachers at local markets of Kifaru & Kituri villages of Mwanga district. More than 500 people were present at the campaign site and around 300 face masks were distributed to the people.
Society of Mangalore Africa Mission (SMAM) is preparing cotton cloth masks and distributing to the general public, so far over 2000 face masks were distributed by SMAM.
President of Republic of Tanzania has announced Tanzania will not go under lockdown because it is ill prepared. People work in daily basis and sustain themselves. If business is closed, the country will suffer more hunger deaths than COVID-19. Government has given clear instructions to keep safe distance, follow hygiene practices.
Schools and educational institutions nationwide are closed indefinitely. Churches, mosques and temples are open for prayer with social distance.
