Bishop of Mangalore officially handed over the keys and documents of newly built houses to 18 landless poor Catholics of the diocese of Mangalore at Bishop House today i.e. on May 30th, 2015. 24 houses were constructed on the occasion of the Post Centenary Silver Jubilee celebrations of the diocese, at the vicinity of Mariashram, Talapady. The houses are well constructed with the basic facilities and presently 18 families are going to occupy the houses at Talapady who will belong to Mariashram Parish.
Speaking at the occasion Bishop said that, he felt pity for many poor landless Catholics who used come for help to him, so he decided to construct houses with help of donors. Each house costs of 7 lacs with good facilities. Bishop requested all inmates to live in Christian spirit, to be attached to the Parish and be detached from all bad habits.
He handed over the keys, documents of the house and the letter to give to the Parish Priest about their membership.
The man behind the project Fr Willaim Menezes read the details about the agreement that the house is given for the monthly rent of Rs 5/- for five years. After five years they have to renew the agreement with the Bishop.
