Shanthi Kiran, Mangalore – August 21, 2024: The Diocese of Mangalore successfully concluded its Ongoing Formation Programme for clergy, held on August 20 and 21, 2024, at Shanthi Kiran, the Pastoral Institute in Mangalore. The two-day event focused on the theme “Living our Priesthood in Challenging Times,” bringing together priests from various vicariates for a time of deep reflection and practical learning.
Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz, SJ, the Provincial of Karnataka Province, led the sessions, offering profound insights into the vocation of leadership in the light of Jesus’ own example. “Like Jesus, our leadership is also one of service,” Fr Vaz emphasized. “The service of the superior is the service of promoting union and discernment.” His words resonated deeply with the participants, underscoring the essential role of selfless service in effective leadership.
The sessions were lively and engaging, featuring group dynamics that encouraged the sharing of joys and challenges experienced in priestly ministry. Fr Vaz also skillfully guided the groups through conflict management, providing practical tools to navigate disputes and foster unity within their communities.
The programme was meticulously planned and executed by Very Rev. Santhosh Rodrigues, Director of the Pastoral Centre, who ensured that every detail was attended to. The smooth execution of the event was a testament to his organisational prowess and commitment to the ongoing formation of the clergy.
Adding to the significance of the event, the Bishop was present on both days, personally introducing Fr Vaz and reinforcing the importance of the programme. His presence further highlighted the Diocese’s commitment to supporting its priests in their spiritual and pastoral journeys.
Participants expressed their deep appreciation for the opportunity to engage in such a timely and relevant programme. Many noted that the insights and practical strategies gained would be instrumental in strengthening their ministry and addressing the complex challenges they face in their parishes.
