Mangalore Diocese Celebrates 50 Years of Catholic Charismatic Renewal with Mega Bible Convention

MANGALURU, FEB 28: The Catholic community in Mangalore came together in joyous celebration as the Mangalore Diocesan Service Communion (MDSC) and the Bible Commission marked the 50th Year of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal with a spectacular “Bible Mega Convention.”

The convention, inaugurated on February 22 at the Holy Cross Church, Cordel Grounds, Mangalore, witnessed a grand inaugural ceremony attended by esteemed dignitaries including Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, and Most Rev. Dr Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhi, Bishop of Belthangady. The convention, led by Rev. Fr Joseph Edattu VC from the Divine Retreat Centre Kerala, commenced with a procession symbolizing the significance of the Word of God.

The four-day event featured a series of spiritually enriching sessions including Eucharistic Mass, praise and worship, spiritual talks, prayers of deliverance, and adoration. Attendees were treated to inspiring sermons and uplifting worship sessions led by various spiritual leaders.

The convention, which continued till February 25, 2024, drew massive crowds each day, with a total of over 25,000 people attending throughout the event, reflecting the deep spiritual hunger and fervour within the Catholic community of Mangalore. Participants engaged in heartfelt prayers for spiritual renewal, seeking divine blessings for family prosperity, global peace, and the well-being of humanity.

Notable highlights included the inauguration of the Golden Jubilee Year, the lighting of lamps symbolizing the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the launch of the MDSC website www.ccrmangalore.in  and YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@ccrmangalore  signifying a significant step forward in digital outreach efforts.

The convention also provided half-day training sessions for charismatic leaders across Mangalore and other Karnataka Dioceses, further enhancing the movement’s impact on fostering spiritual growth and community engagement.

Day 2 of the Mega Bible Convention in Mangalore witnessed a remarkable turnout, underscoring the event’s significance in fostering spiritual renewal. Led by Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao and Rev. Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhi, the Eucharistic mass symbolised a collective journey towards embracing Jesus Christ as the cornerstone of faith. Bishop Mukkuzhi’s poignant message emphasised the continuous battle against evil forces, urging attendees to align their lives with the will of God. The convention, marking the Golden Jubilee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement in Mangalore, featured dynamic sessions of praise, worship, and spiritual talks, amplifying the transformative power of faith.

On Day 3, the Mega Bible Convention in Mangalore continued its mission of spiritual revival, drawing multitudes seeking renewal and enrichment. Under the guidance of Rev. Fr Joseph Edattu VC, the convention’s sessions delved into profound spiritual discourse, prayers for deliverance, and healing. The energetic Praise and Worship segment, led by Mrs. Blossom Rego, set an uplifting tone, fostering communal devotion. Very Rev. Msgr Maxim Noronha’s sermon during the Eucharistic Mass further invigorated attendees, reinforcing the convention’s focus on spiritual rejuvenation and the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement in the diocese.

The final day of the Mega Bible Convention in Mangalore marked a culmination of spiritual fervour and community engagement. Led by Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao and Rev. Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhi, the convention’s sessions resonated with attendees, emphasising the cleansing and liberating power of Jesus Christ’s teachings. Rev. Fr Joseph Edattu VC’s inspiring discourse encapsulated the convention’s essence, prompting attendees to reflect on their faith and calling. As the convention concluded amidst lively praise and worship, it reaffirmed the enduring impact of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement in Mangalore, promising continued spiritual growth and blessings for attendees and beyond.

About the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement in Mangalore:

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement, which traces its roots back to 1975 under the guidance of Bishop Late Rev. Dr Basil D’Souza and Bishop Emeritus Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, has been instrumental in fostering spiritual growth and community engagement over the past five decades. Under the continued support of Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, the movement has organized numerous training programs, prayer gatherings, and conferences, impacting thousands within the diocese.

The Golden Jubilee Celebration:

The convention promises a spiritually enriching experience, aimed at deepening Catholic faith and teachings while providing attendees with an opportunity to seek divine blessings for family prosperity, global peace, and the well-being of humanity.

Half-day training sessions for charismatic leaders across Mangalore and other Karnataka Dioceses are also scheduled during the four-day event.

The inauguration of the Charism seminar was held on the morning of February 22, 2024 and was marked by the esteemed presence of Fr Joseph Edattu, joined by Fr Clifford and Fr Vincent, spiritual directors of the Mangalore and Udupi Diocesan Service Communion respectively. The event was graced by the coordination of Kevan D’Souza and the efficient emceeing of Blossom Rego, who, alongside Arun Lobo, Mercy Menezes, and JV DMello, warmly welcomed them with bouquets of roses. The session kicked off with an uplifting praise and worship led by Dolphy Lobo, accompanied by the melodious tunes of Mr Vincent.

The mega-convention turned out to be a successful event with the leadership of Rev. Fr Clifford Fernandes, Spiritual Director of MDSC, Rev. Fr Vicent Sequeira, Diocesan Director of Bible Commission, Mr Kevan Dsouza, coordinator of the programme, Mrs Blossom Rego, Secretary MDSC, Team members of MDSC, Cordel Parish Vice President, secretary and members of Pastoral Parishad and Cordel Church Volunteers.

The Mega Bible Convention served as a testament to the enduring faith and devotion of the Catholic community in Mangalore, reaffirming their commitment to spiritual renewal and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
