May 27 : Diocese of Mangalore disbursed financial help to the poor students for the purpose of education on 27 May 2019 at Bishop house. Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha distributed the cheques to the students.
Speaking at the occasion bishop said, that Catholic Church is of the poor and for the poor. The money that is given to poor students involves the savings and sacrifices done by Catholics during Lenten season. The CODP of Mangalore diocese organized this whole campaign and identified the poor students. Bishop motivated the students to help other poor students by the ways doing their personal contribution after they get jobs. A generous giver receives in hundred fold, follow the law of gratuitousness he added. The diocese of Mangalore gives this educational help as an annual feature for the past many years to help the poor students though CODP. Today financial help is disbursed to 89 students belonging to all faiths. This year Mangalore diocese has helped more than 150 students.
Fr Oswald Montero Director CODP welcomed and compared the programme. He informed the students about the project in his opening address. He mentioned that this amount is gathered from the sacrifices that Catholics made in Lenten season.
The payment is done through account payee cheques only. Parents of the students were also present for the program. CODP staff lead the prayer.
