Mangaluru, Aug 18, 2017 : The historicity of the Portuguese confirms their arrival on the shores of old Kanara’s, Mangaluru in January 1568. On the river banks here they established their fort named “St. Sebastian” and a church was incorporated in this fort. Here, an image of ‘Mother of the Rosary’ was installed, it gained a high reputation as a ‘miraculous statue’. Thus it came to bear the name as ‘Mother of the Rosary’ church. It is now practically 450 years.
It was later raised to the the status of ‘Rosario Cathedral’ in 1850, and was the mother church of the region. Built into this religious and spiritual theology is a deeply prayerful tradition of the ‘Rosary’, which at this point of time is set to engulf and manifest among the more than 450 families of this pioneer parish. The call now, is for deep catholic spiritual renewal in holiness of each and every family and person here.
This miraculous statuette or image, on August 15, 2017 as per God’s will, was set out on pilgrimage to each and every family home of all 14 wards of the parish. It would return back to it’s seat in the Cathedral in February 2019, on the completion of its Jubilee. It’s a land mark of this great historic event. This was announced by V. Rev Fr. J B Crasta, the Rector of the Rosario Cathedral. The statuette was blessed by Msgr. Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General who launched it’s pilgrimage as well. Priests of the parish Rev Frs., Anil Fernandes, Rocky Fernandes and Vincent D’Souza were present as also the Vice-President of the Parish Pastoral Parished Mr. C J Simon and a large congregation.

ಪಾಲನಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಪಸರ ಮಾತೆಯ ಪಯಣ
ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸರು 1568 ಜನವರಿ 20ರಂದು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಕರಾವಾಳಿಯಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆವೂರಿದರು. ಅಂದು ಅವರು ಸಂತ ಸೆಬಾಸ್ಟಿಯನ್ ಕೋಟೆಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಇಗರ್ಜಿಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರು. ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆವೂರಿದಾಗ, “ರೊಜಾರಿ” ಮಾತೆಯ ಪವಾಡ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ತಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಪವಾಡ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಟಾಪಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆಂದಿನಿಂದ ಈ ಇಗರ್ಜಿಗೆ “ರೊಜಾರಿ ಮಾತೆ” (ಜಪಸರ ಮಾತೆ) ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟರು. ಇದೊಂದು ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಘಟನೆಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸರು ಈ ಜಪಸರ ಮಾತೆಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿ ಇಂದು 450 ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತವೆ.
‘ರೊಜಾರಿಯೊ ಕಾಥೆಡ್ರಲ್’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುವ ಈ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಆವಿಬಾಜ್ಯಾ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಒಂದು ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಘಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಭಾವನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು, ರೊಜಾರಿಯೊ ಪಾಲನ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಇಂದು ಜಪಸರ ಮಾಲೆಯ ಮಾರಿಯಮ್ಮನ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಈ ಪಾಲನ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ 450 ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುವ ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ರುಪಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಪ್ರತಿ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ನವೀಕರಣ ಮಾಡಲು ಕರೆಕೊಡಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಈ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯು ಆಗೋಸ್ತ್ 15 ರಂದು ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮಾಡಿ ಮುಂದಿನ 2019 ನೇ ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗಿ ಬರುವ ಒಂದು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಕಾಥೆದ್ರಲ್‍ನ ರೆಕ್ಟರ್ ಆತೀ ವಂದನೀಯ ಜೆ. ಬಿ. ಕ್ರಾಸ್ತಾ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಆತೀ ವಂದನೀಯ ಮೊನ್ಸಿಂಜೊರ್ ಡೆನಿಸ್ ಮೊರಾಸ್ ಪ್ರಭು, ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಟಗುರುಗಳು ಆಶೀರ್ವಾಚನ ಇತ್ತು ಶುಭಹಾರೈಕೆಯನ್ನಿತ್ತರು. ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವಂದನೀಯ ಆನಿಲ್ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್, ವಂ. ರೋಕ್ಕಿ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್, ವಂ ವಿನ್ಸೆಂಟ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜ, ಪಾಲನ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ್ ಸಿ. ಜೆ ಸೈಮನ್ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.
