April 9 : CODP and the Diocese of Mangalore in collaboration with the administration of Mangalore taluk under its Tahsildar , Mr Guruprasad has reached out to the unorganized laborers at Sunkadakatte colony near Urwa Stores, Mangalore on 8th of April 2020.
Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha who was present during the occasion said in his message, that this quarantine during Covid 19 is a critical time and we show our solidarity with people suffering due to lack of jobs and food. We are united with the humanity and we carry on this kind of relief works all over the Diocese of Mangalore. We pray to the Lord that he may protect us all from this pandemic. He later distributed food kits to 13 poor and needy families of Sunkadakatte colony.
Mr. Ashok Konchady, the president Bheema Sena Sunkadakatte, had requested the Tahsildar regarding the plight of poor people in their locality and the Tahsildar had directed them to CODP. DYFI members of Sunkadkatte had selected the beneficiaries. Rev Fr. Oswald Monteiro, the Director of CODP and Mr. Stephen Pinto of Educare were also present during the programme.
Later the Bishop was requested to pray over a bedridden lady in a nearby house and Bishop obliged.
So far eleven hundred kilograms of rice, 200 kilograms of potatoes and 200 kilograms of onions , 200 kilograms of Dhal was distributed by the CODP Mangalore Diocese in Gurpur, Padu Ferar, Urwa Sunkadakatte and Bellare areas.
