Ecumenical Commission Holds Training for Parish Convenors in Mangalore

MANGALORE, June 26, 2026: The Ecumenical Commission of the Diocese of Mangalore organized a significant training program for parish convenors on Friday morning at the Shanthi Kiran Pastoral Centre, Bajjodi, Mangalore. The event aimed to deepen the understanding of Ecumenism and provide practical guidance for fostering Christian unity at the grassroots level.

The programme was inaugurated by the Vicar General of the Diocese, Very Rev. Msgr. Maxim Lawrence Noronha, who set the tone for the day’s proceedings.

Rev. Dr Praveen Joy Saldanha served as the resource person, delivering an insightful session on the fundamental elements of Ecumenism. He underscored the mission of the Ecumenical Commission, which strives to promote Christian unity by focusing on shared commonalities while respectfully navigating denominational differences.

Rev. Fr Rupesh Madtha, the Diocesan Convenor and Secretary for the Ecumenical Commission, extended a formal welcome to the guests and participants, as well as addressed the participants regarding the strategic vision and practical guidelines for promoting Christian unity from the parish level and beyond. He provided a roadmap for implementation and engaged in a productive Q&A session, addressing the specific queries raised by the attendees. 

Half of the Convenors took part today and the remaining half will attend a similar training program on 19 July 2026.

Event Highlights
The day was marked by both professional development and organizational transition.

Programme Conduct: The event was compered by Ms Rushal Lobo Gurpur, while Mrs Amy Lobo Cascia proposed vote of thanks.

A new team at the diocesan level was officially formed to carry forward the commission’s objectives.

The programme maintained a spiritual focus, beginning and concluding with prayer. Attendees were provided with breakfast and lunch to facilitate networking and discussion.

The Ecumenical Commission remains a vital arm of the Church, working in tandem with associated organizations such as the Mangalore Christian Council and the All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights (AKUCFHR) to advocate for fellowship, human rights, and social justice.
