Bible Commission Launches Bible Classes at Vittal Deanery

VIttal,07 July 2024: Vicariate-Level Bible Classes at Vittal Vicariate (St John Paul II Vicarite) were inaugurated at Our Lady of Dolours, Vittal Church, on 07 July 2024. The first course, on the Gospel of Matthew in Konkani, titled “Dev Amchye Sangatha” / “God with us” for the priests, religious, and Laity of the Deanery, was inaugurated by Very Rev Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, the Vicar Forane of the Vicariate, by officiating a short enthronement right of the Bible.

Addressing the attendees, V. Rev. Fr. Ivan Rodrigues underscored the significance of Bible study in the lives of the faithful. Organised by the ‘Commission for Bible of the Deanery Parishes’ and supported by the ‘Commission for Bible of the Diocese of Mangalore’, these sessions reflect a widespread initiative across the Diocese’s deaneries. Fr. Rodrigues assured participants that the upcoming Bible Study Sessions promise to be enriching and enjoyable. He warmly welcomed the resource team comprising of the diocesan secretary of the Commission for Bible, Rev Dr Vincent Sequeira, Rev Fr Suraj Lobo, Assistant Priest and Priest-Teacher at Kumbla CBSC School, and Mr Aaron Nazareth, the diocesan joint secretary of Bible Commission and all the participants.

The inaugural class witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 89 members representing various deanery parishes, with more expected to join in the coming weeks. Scheduled to run over five Sundays – July 07, 14, 21, 28, and 04 August – from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., these classes are set to conclude the study of the Gospel of Matthew in nearly 80% of the diocesan deaneries.
