The newly-built Our Lady of Mercy Church at Fajir was blessed and inaugurated in a grand ceremony held on Monday December 15. Mangaluru bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza blessed and celebrated the solemn Eucharist at the newly-built Church.
The bishop also blessed the newly-built presbytery, belfry and Church hall on this occasion.

Ursuline Franciscan superior general Sr Doreen D’Souza, Mangaluru south deanery vicar Fr Gregory D’Souza, state health minister U T Khadar, ZP member Santhosh Kumar Boliyar, Bantwal taluk panchayat member Padmavati Sesappa Poojary, Fajir gram panchayat president Florin D’Souza were the guests of honor.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul, in his presidential address praised the hard work of all the people who were involved in the Church building project and he implored God’s blessing s on all the people present.
Health minister U T Khadar, appreciated the efforts of Fajir parish priest Fr Stany Pereira and the parishioners of Fajir parish and wished all the best for everything and assured all his support.
During this function former parish priests of Fajir Church were felicitated and everyone thanked their efforts to nourish people’s faith.
People from all walks of faith were present for this historic moment and they also participated in the fellowship meal. ‘Eer Undara…?’, a Tulu drama by Ln Devdas Kapikad was staged at 6:30 pm as part of the entertainment programme.
This programme was a great success over eight thousand people being present for this historic event.
