Mangaluru, Nov 8: St Joseph’s Engineering College celebrated its 6th graduation ceremony on Saturday November 8 at the college premises. The programme began with the invocation by the college choir. The welcome address was given by Fr Ajith Menezes, Director In-charge of St Joseph’s Engineering College. The chief guest of the programme was former Supreme Court judge and former Lokayukta chief of Karnataka, Justice N Santosh Hegde,

Justice N Santosh Hegde distributed 445 degree certificates to the sixth batch of students of 2013-2014 computer science, electronics and communication, electronics and electrical, mechanical, and information science sections of engineering and Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduates. Addressing the gathering Justice N Santosh Hegde said,” Students, your journey is not over. Only one part of your journey is complete. Education is continuous process, it has no end.

“Keep your eyes and ears open to the society and observe what is happening around. Now there is no respect for charity or honesty. The one who is wealthy and powerful is given all the respect, which needs to be changed. “Have contentment in life, do not be jealous of someone’s achievements or possessions. Do not let greed overpower you. Work hard and reach the heights of life.

“The corruption has grown over the years. The jeep scandal in 1948 was the first major corruption case in India. After that, 2G Spectrum Scam in 2008 with 1.76 lac crore, Commonwealth games scam in 2010 of Rs 70,000 crore, Indian Coal Allocation Scam of 2012 with Rs 1.86 lac crore and many more scams have looted this country. Unfortunately, the people who are supposed to be honest are corrupt.

“Be whatever you want to be. But be a human being first. If you are free from greed in your life, you are a successful person indeed. If you have touched few hearts,You are the happiest person. Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza presented gold medals to the toppers of college.

The retired faculty member from the Mechanical Engineering Department, Professor Ganapathi Bhat was felicitated on the occasion. Dr Joseph Gonsalves, Principal and Fr Rohit D’Costa Assistant Director of St Joseph’s Engineering College were present during the occasion.
