MANGALURU, JUNE 07: The Diocese of Mangalore officially commenced the Catechism Year 2026–27 on Sunday, marked by a central celebration at the Rosario Cathedral and simultaneous inaugurations across all parishes in the diocese.
Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, led the main inaugural ceremony at the Cathedral. The Bishop initiated the new academic year of faith formation with a solemn prayer service during the Eucharistic celebration. To symbolise unity and a synchronized start to the academic year, every parish across the diocese observed the inauguration simultaneously, incorporating a special inaugural activity into their respective Sunday Masses.
In his address, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha highlighted the vital role of religious education in shaping the character and moral values of children. He called upon catechists and parents to work collaboratively in nurturing young minds with spiritual wisdom.
The central event at the Cathedral was attended by several dignitaries, including Rev. Fr Valerian D’Souza, Rev. Fr Valerian Fernandes, Rev. Fr Pradeep, and Rev. Fr Ivan D’Souza. A large number of catechism teachers, students, and faithful from various parts of the diocese participated in the event.
With the simultaneous launch, thousands of children across the district have formally entered the new term of spiritual and moral education under the guidance of the Diocesan Biblical and Catechetical Centre.
