Diocese of Mangalore holds Priests’ Annual Retreat 2024

MANGALURU, JULY 13: The first batch of the annual retreat for the priests of Mangalore diocese was concluded on Friday, July 13, 2024, at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Shanthi Kiran, Bajjodi.  A week’s retreat was begun on Sunday evening July 07, 2024. 

Rev. Fr Jacob Parappally, MSFS well-known theologian and a retreat preacher, preached the retreat. Professor Parappally holds a doctorate in theology from Germany and has long teaching experience in systematic theology at various institutes in India and abroad. He is the Chief-editor of Journal of Indian Theology He has published several books and scholarly articles. He was the President of the Indian Theological Association.

Almost 85 priests of the diocese spent time in silence and prayer. The retreat helped the priests to disconnect from their regular routines and find inner peace. It was an opportunity for introspection, prayer, and contemplation, enabling all priests to listen to their inner voice and discern their spiritual journey.

Rev. Fr Stany Pinto, Parish Priest of Mukka Parish shared his experiences. Fr Stany said, “This retreat helped us to feel the spirit of community and fellowship. This communal aspect allows us to build connections, share experiences, and learn from one another. The sense of camaraderie and fellowship that develops during the retreat is a great source of encouragement and support.”

Fr Paul Sequeira from Balkunje, sharing his experience of the retreat, wrote in  the social media, “The retreat was a truly transformative experience. Fr Jacob, a preacher of great holiness, wisdom, and humility, provided profound theological insights deeply rooted in the Word of God. His concise talks required days to fully digest.” 

Fr Paul further noted, “The retreat highlighted the essence of priesthood as a divine gift, reminding us to fully dedicate ourselves to our communities. We are grateful to our Lord Bishop for selecting Fr Jacob and to Fr Santhosh Rodrigues and his team for their meticulous care, delicious food, and prayerful atmosphere. This retreat rekindled our spirit and enthusiasm for our ministry. We pray that our Lord Jesus, who guided the apostles, continues to accompany us and make our ministry fruitful.”

Fr Larry Pinto verbalised his sentiments of gratitutde on behalf of the retreatents.

Rev. Fr Santhosh Rodrigues, Director of, the Pastoral Centre coordinated the retreat and made necessary arrangements with the help of the Pastoral Centre team.

The annual retreat for the second batch of priests will be held in the advent season, the first week of December.
