Prison Ministry India – Mangalore unit holds 20th Anniversary celebration

Mangalore, Aug 18 : Prison Ministry India – Mangalore unit on the occasion of its 20th anniversary of its service, offered a thanksgiving mass at Rosario cathedral on Aug 18, 2019. Most Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore diocese was the main celebrant. In his sermon, Bishop said , “Prayer is the main thing we can do for the prison people. Person won’t be criminal from birth, it’s because of the social issues which make them do this”. The mass was followed by stage program.

Fr Prakash DCunha , Director of Prison Ministry India – Mangalore unit welcomed the gathering. The guest of honour were Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha, District Jail Superintendent Mr Chandan Patil , Prison Ministry Karnataka State Co-ordinator Fr Benny, Prison Ministry Karnataka Secretary Sr Therese, Dr Ronald Fernandes , Member KPSC and Fr J B Crasta , Parish priest Rosario were present on dais.

Chief guest Chandan Patil said people work for rewards but prison ministry people work without rewards or any gratitude . Many NGOs come to jail but none worked like prison ministry people do. They have also helped in deployment of mental health of prisoners.

Bishop honored the beneficiary who helped in this mission.

Bishop in his message said, family is the mainly affected when a person is in jail . We have to be voice to voiceless people . He thanked all the Sponsors and well wishers for their contribution and support they give through love and prayer, thus it is possible to bring change in life of prisoners.

Dr Tressie Menezes compered the programme. Mr Jerome Lobo proposed vote of thanks.
