Protection of nature is our duty: Bishop D’Souza

Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore picked up the lucky number of those who signed for the pledge on “Care for Creation- My Responsibility” on 16th November at Bishop’s house at 8.30am.

The programme was organized by the Social Concern Committee of the Diocesan Pastoral  Parishad. The lot taking ceremony was organized as a follow up of the programme “Care for Creation-My Responsibility” held on 29-08-2015 at Milagres Jubilee Hall. The pledge sheets were circulated among the citizens of Mangalore. In all 34,743 people had signed for the pledge. The Bishop in his address said that the signing for the pledge on “Care for Creation- My Responsibility” had become a movement. It has created awareness among 34,743 people directly and indirectly(family members and friends) among many more.

Fr Onil D’Souza, the convener of Social Concern Committee gave a brief introduction and welcomed the gathering. Mr M P Noronha the secretary of Diocesan Pastoral Parishad proposed the vote of thanks. Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General of the diocese was present of the occasion.

Ms Rakshitha second year PU  student of St Annes College the winner of the lucky draw gets one sovereign of gold. Mr Louis J Pinto, the  businessman and a philanthropist from Valencia is the sponsor of this one sovereign gold. His was thanked for sponsoring the prize and for taking pains in getting the huge number of signatures.
