Nov 21, 2017: Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem organized the dual celebrations of the Confraternity Sunday and the Inauguration of the Renovated Church on Sunday 19 November, 2017. Bishop of Gulbarga, His Excellency Most Rev Dr Robert Miranda inaugurated the renovated portico by cutting the ribbon, followed by the blessing of the main door and portico by the Bishop of Mangalore, His Excellency Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza. After the blessing, The Solemn High Mass was celebrated by Bishop Aloysius and Bishop Robert preached the homily on the real meaning of “The Temple or House of God”.
Eucharistic procession as a part of the Confraternity Sunday celebration was held. The faithful participated in both events devoutly, celebrating their faith and thanking God for the successful completion of the renovation of the Church. The Liturgical Celebration concluded with benediction and final blessing.
A short felicitation program was organized to honor and felicitate the donors and the people who held different responsibilities for the completion of the Renovation of the Church. His Excellency Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the function. His Excellency Most Rev Robert Miranda was the Chief Guest. Mr J. R Lobo, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Mangalore South Constituency; Mr Abhayachandra Jain, MLA, Mulki, Moodbidri; Rev Fr Vincent F. Monteiro, Vicar Forane, Kinnigoli Deanery and Mr Divakar Chowta, President, Grama Panchayat, Aikala were the Guests of Honor. The two stalwarts of the renovation work, the Engineer Mr Lawrence Cutinho and Contractor Mr Richard Menezes were felicitated and honoured.
On this occasion the three Guthu Families :- Talipady Guthu, Aikala Bhava and Angadi Guthu, who were responsible for protecting the church from its demolition at the hands of Tipu Sultan were honored and felicitated for their goodwill and sacrifice. To Mark this special event a special issue of “Kiryantlen Keern” the Parish Bulletin, was released by the Chief Guest Bishop Robert Miranda. In his presidential address Bishop Aloysius lauded the Parish Priest and Parishioners for renovating the church at the same time maintaining the old architectural beauty of existing church ie the Gothic Architecture. The Parish Priest welcomed the gathering and the Vice President Mr Burton Sequiera welcomed the gathering.
