Mangaluru, April 06, 2019: 17 students from 10 parishes attended a two-day residential vocation camp organised by Vocation Service Centre at Gladsom home minor seminary on April 5 and 6.
The camp began on April 5 at 10 a.m. Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore interacted with the students. Emphasising on the core of priestly ministry, Bishop said, “Knowledge of the scriptures and deep faith in it is very important for every student who aspires to become a priest. A priest is fundamentally called to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Every candidate must find within himself the joy of the gospel by believing what he reads, teaching what he believes and practising what he teaches.”
During the camp the students were given sufficient information on minor seminary formation. Fr Boniface Pinto, Professor at Jeppu Seminary spoke on Responding to God’s call in modern times. Fr Stany Pinto, Asst. Parish Priest, Permannur spoke on the spirituality of a diocesan priest and his mission.
In the evening Fr Damien of Molokai, an inspiring film was screened. Br Reevan Pais and Br Norman Mathias from Jeppu Seminary were the facilitators. They inspired students by sharing their vocation stories, conducting value based games and group activities. Fr Denis Moras briefed the history of Mangalore Diocese and his experience.
Fr Anil Fernandes, vocation promoter of the diocese said, “Around 40 students participated during December camp. This time the number is less. Yet, we have received some genuine vocations. Most of them have come to get a fore taste of seminary life. I believe, Come and See programme has helped these students to take a proper decision in their life”.
Students from Modankap, Mukka, Moodabidri, Bela, Permannur, Mudipu, Kirem, Katipalla, Surathkal and Indubettu participated in the camp.
