Kasargod, Apr 20: Inaugural of the newly founded Bela Public Welfare Cooperative Society was held at Yatri hall at Bela on Tuesday April 19.
The society was inaugurated by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru diocese.
The newly created society office was blessed by chief priest of Kasargod parish, Fr Vincent D’Souza, Deputy director of cooperative societies here, K Surendran, handed over share certificates. Fixed deposit scheme was unveiled by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president, Roy Castelino.
Retired deputy director of cooperative societies, Raghav Nambiar, distributed identity cards to members. Priest of Kumble St Monica church, Fr Marcel Saldanha, and retired principal of KIMS Nursing College here, Leena M Rodrigues, extended best wishes to the new society.
Secretary of the society, Raju Stephen D’Souza Kumble, president, M S Thomas D’Souza, Maniyampare church priest, Fr Peter Fernandes, priest of the church here, Fr Naveen D’Souza, assistant priest of Bela church, Fr Denzil Lobo, Ukkinadka church priest, Fr Stany Slav, Narampady church priest, Fr Santosh Menezes, Manjeshwara church priest, Fr Valerian Louis, Alphonse Albert D’Souza, Dolphi D’Souza, and others were present.
President of the society, M S Thomas D’Souza, welcomed,. Secretary, Raju Stephen D’Souza Kumble presented the report. Director, Jeanne Laveena Monteiro propoed vote of thanks.
After the meeting, magic show and entertainmentn programme were presented. Comedy Cousins team from Maniyampare presented a play.
Bela Public Welfare Society has emerged as the culmination of aspirations of the people from the area. At present, it has been functioning from a building located at Badiyadka road in Kumble. The society plans to develop the habit of savings, financial self reliance, and enabling youngsters to achieve their dreams for future towards social and financial development of the region and also help women to become self reliant and to inspire people to become self employed.
The society came into being due to personal interest taken by chief priest of the region, Fr Vincent D’Souza and efforts of advocate, M S Thomas D’Souza and Raju Stephen D’Souiza Kumble and others. Raju John D’Souza Maniyampare, Dolphi D’Souza Kumble, Alphonse Albert D’Souza Kayyar, Vincent Prakash, Richard Crasta, Amit Arun D’Souza, Shini Maria Crasta, Jeanne Laveena Monteiro, Piyad Crasta and Saumya Suvaris happen to be its directors.
