Nov 8 : November 7, 2021 was a very special and joyous day for all Parishioners of Our Lady of Pompei Church, Gurpur Kaikamba which celebrated its 100 years of existence (1921 -2021).
On Sunday 7th November, all the parishioners took part in the grand thanksgiving mass celebrated by main celebrant Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop, Diocese of Mangalore along with co-celebrants Most. Rev.Dr. Aloysius Paul Dsouza, Bishop Emeritus, Diocese of Mangalore; Most Rev. Dr. Lawrence Mukkuzhy , Bishop, Diocese of Belthangady; Rev. Dr. Pius James Dsouza OCD, Definitor General, order of Discalced Carmelites, Rome; Rev.Fr. Marcel Saldanha , Vicar Forane , Pezar Deanery along with Fr. Anthony Lobo – Parish priest and all the guest priests. More than 2000 parishioners along with guests, religious sisters were present during the thanksgiving mass.
After the thanksgiving mass, a grand felicitation programme was arranged at the church ground. The chief guest of the day Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha inaugurated the programme by planting a coconut tree and watering it. Thereafter Fr. Anthony Lobo , Parish priest welcomed all the dignitaries on the dais and all the people off the dais.
Praveen Lobo, secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council presented the centenary report followed by felicitation to all ex-Parish Priests by Bishop Emeritus Aloysiius Paul Dsouza. Felicitation was also carried out to Vicar Forane Rev. Fr. Marcel Saldanha, all the ex-Parish Pastoral council Presidents, secretaries, convener of the centenary celebration by Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy along with Rev. Dr. Pius James Dsouza OCD.
The highest donors along with highest contributors for centenary celebration were felicitated by Rev. Sr. M. Rose Celine B.S., Superior General, Bethany Society, Mangalore along with Shri J.R Lobo and Rev. Sr. M. Cicilia Mendoncsa B.S.
This was followed by felicitation to Rev. Dr. Pius James Dsouza OCD – Definitor General, order of Discalced Carmelites, Rome ; Rev. Fr. Marcel Saldanha , Vicar Forane, Pezar Deanery and Rev. Sr. M. Rose Celine B.S, Superior General, Bethany Society Mangalore and Rev. Sr. M. Cicilia Mendonca B.S., Provincial Superior, Mangalore Province, by all three Bishops.
A History book was released by Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy. Dr. Y Bharath Shetty, Hon. MLA, Mangalore North Constituency was felicitated by all three Bishops, followed by felicitation to Ex-MLA Shri J. R. Lobo, Hon. Muhammed Shareef Arshadi and Dr. M Mohan Alva by all three Bishops. Shri Ivan Dsouza, Hon. Ex-MLC, Govt of Karnataka and Shri Moideen Bava, Hon. Ex-MLA, Mangalore North Constituency were present.
All Panchayaths Presidents including Sri. Umensh Moolya, President , Kandavara Gramaa Panchayat; Shri. Yashwanth Kumar Shetty , President , Gurupura Grama Panchayath; Shri. Nonayya Koitian , President, Ganjimut Grama Panchayat were felicitated on this occasion.
Fr. Pius Pinto responsible for Spearheading History book and Dr. Godvin Lobo , Editor of Centenary Souvenir were felicitated by Rev. Fr. Marcel Saldanha.
All three Bishops were felicitated by Rev. Fr. Antony Lobo , Parish Priest. Centenary Souvenir was released by Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha followed by his presidential address.
Vote of thanks was rendered by Shri. Jerald Lobo , Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council followed by Grace on meals by Fr. Antony Lobo.
Mr. Roman Lobo and Mrs. Delcy Rodrigues as MCs of the programme, conducted the entire programme very beautifully and professionally from beginning to the end.
A lunch was served to more than 5500 people, prepared by the Parishioners.
