Aug 9 : The funeral Mass of Fr Maurice F D Souza was held on 9 August 2020, at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia presided over by Most Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore diocese and concelebrated by Most Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi diocese, Fr Pius D Souza OCD, Provincial OCD Karnataka – Goa Province, Msgr. Maxim L Noronha, Vicar General and many priests.
Fr Walter D Mello in his homily said that, Fr Maurice was the man of prayer and commitment, a good pastor who lead his flock with faith and courage.
Fr Andrew D Souza, Parish Priest , Bajal Church offered panegyric, presented a life of a selfless pastor, a man of prayer and commitment, man who loved the poor, a priest won the hearts of his people though out the pastoral ministry, who endured the sickness and suffering till the last breath of his life.
A requiem mass was also held at St Zuze Vas home where he spent his last days, at 2 .30 pm, presided over by Msgr. Maxim L Noronha, Vicar General of Mangalore diocese. Later his body was brought to Valencia church for the final rites.
His Body was buried at Mangalore Diocese Priests’ Cemetery Valencia, in the presence of his relatives, friends, priests and religious strictly following the Government regulations of the time.
