Originally part of Bela parish, the Catholics of Kayyar faced a daunting 20-kilometer trek to attend Mass. To ease this burden, Fr. Faustin Aranha began ministering locally in 1925 at a small chapel built by Mr. Dominic D’Souza. Fr. Aranha later established a multipurpose building on the present site that served as a chapel, school, and presbytery for nearly two decades.

Recognizing the community’s growth, Bishop Victor erected Kayyar as an independent parish on February 16, 1934, appointing Fr. L. Furtado as its first resident parish priest in 1935. Construction on the main church began under Fr. J.A.P. Miranda, and following years of effort, Fr. L.S. Pais completed the structure. Bishop Peres solemnly consecrated the altar on April 25, 1956.

Fr. Lawrence C. Pais (parish priest from 1951 to 1965) stands out as the master builder of modern Kayyar. He separated the church and school into distinct buildings, expanded education, brought public transport and medical care to the region, and supported the needy regardless of faith. Today, shaped by dedicated pastors and the Ursuline Sisters, Kayyar Parish stands as a vibrant testament to divine grace and pastoral zeal.
