HISTORY :
In 1804 a church was started at Kinnigoly. After the return from the captivity, Catholics around Mulky used to come to the re-roofed church at Kirem for services as they had no church of their own. As there were frictions between these two groups, the Catholics of Mulky built their own church at Kinnigoly. Fr P.D. Rebello built the nave in 1895. Fr J.J. D’Souza built the sanctuary between 1895 and 1908, Fr Albert D’Sa constructed the church gallery and Fr Marian S. Fernandes the church portico. In 1957 Fr Jacob Lobo remodelled and renovated the church. Fr Jacob Lobo purchased land at Kondemula grama and constructed a chapel at Kateel and it was inaugurated on December 4, 1968 dedicated to St Jacob. He also built a chapel at Pakshikere which was blessed by Bishop Raymond D’Mello on October 28, 1960 dedicated to St Jude Thadeus. Rev. L.V. M. Fernandes (1968-1979) built the new church and the presbytery and were inaugurated 4-5-1977. The new belfrey was inaugurated on 4-5-1979. The two wings of the old church were retained and converted into a hall.
Fr Joseph L. Pais had constructed the first floor of the presbytery and Fr Jacob Lobo remodelled it. Fr Lobo also started Concetta Hospital on April 13, 1958. Subsequently it has been handed over to Bethany Sisters for administration.
Location:
The church is situated at a distance of 33 kms to the north-east of Mangalore, surrounded by Kirem, Kateel, Mulky and Pakshikere parishes.
