HISTORY :
Belthangady was the mother church of Ujire. Because of the difficulty faced by the people here in going to Belthangady for the Sunday Mass, Fr E.P. Dias of Belthangady bought 6 acres of barren land and built a chapel there and this place became a parish on May 1, 1969. He became the first parish priest of Ujire in 1970. He served the parish for twelve years. Fr Andrew D’Souza (1990-1997) has done a lot for this church. He built the new church and the presbytery on May 3, 1995. His successor, Fr Norbert D’Souza installed a new bell in the new belfry.
In 1978, an English medium school was started by Fr E.P. Dias and Fr Marcel Saldanha added the first floor. During Fr Anthony Lobo’s time, this school was upgraded to the High School level. He added the second floor to the existing school building of Anugraha High School.
Fr Francis D’Souza is the 6th parish priest.
