HISTORY :
Originally Sampaje was a part of Puttur. Fr R.D. Sequeira of Puttur constructed a chapel and a presbytery in 1936 on the land donated by Mr Venantius Paul Coelho. He served this mission from Puttur. Later it was served by Fr Camisa sj and the Olivet Brothers.
Fr Boniface D’Souza constructed the belfry and the hall.
Fr Leo Anthony Cutinho (1955-1973), the first parish priest of Sampaje, established Saverapura Kiriapushpa Higher Primary School and opened Saverapura Ashram, and the Queen of Missions Convent of the Bethany Sisters. Fr Boniface D’Souza started Saverapura English Primary School.
Location:
This church is situated at a distance of 110 kms east of Mangalore and about 28 kms from Sullia, and is surrounded by Sullia and Mercara parishes. (Mercara parish belongs to Mysore Diocese.)
