HISTORY :

This is one of the most ancient churches of the diocese.  A group of migrated Goan Christian families had settled down at Ghazni in Mulky.  Rani Chennamma had gifted them land at Ghazni in 1678 and the Catholics had constructed a church there.  It is recorded that Blessed Joseph Vaz had visited the Mulky church in 1681.  The church was demolished on February 24, 1784 by Tipu Sultan who took away all the Christians of this area as captives.   Some of the survivors of the captivity had returned to Mulky after May 4, 1799.  They used to go to the Kirem church and Kinnigoly  till 1856 when a church was built at Ghazni.  Within 40 years it collapsed.  Fr Joachim Vincent Rebello was the first parish priest from 1858 to 1860.  In 1892 Fr D. Rosario D’Souza, the acting vicar of the Ghazni began the construction of a new church.

The foundation stone was blessed on February 19, 1893 by very Rev. Fr J.B. Rossi sj, Vicar General.  The church was blessed on October 16, 1895.  The first child baptised in the new church later became a priest, i.e., Fr Bonifas D’Souza, sj.  A shrine on the site of the old church was constructed and blessed by Rev. Fr R.F.C. Mascarenhas on December 8, 1947.  On January 30, 1956, Bishop Basil Peres dismembered two furthermost distant wards lying to the north-east and erected the Palimar parish with a permanent resident priest.

Fr A.F. Coelho (1919-1932) constructed the portico in 1919 and Fr J.M. Periera the belfry and did the electrification of church in 1956.

Fr Gregory L. D’Cruz (1965-1975) started the annual mass at the old church shrine in 1966 and remodelled the shrine, added two wings to the church and remodelled the sanctuary and erected the parish hall.  Fr Robert Pinto (1988-1990) drew up the blue print for a new church after getting the Bishop’s permission and in 1998 Fr Mathias Pereira started the work of the new church building, the presbytery and the belfry which were inaugurated on October 25, 2001.
