HISTORY :

The name Nainadu may be come from the Tulu words ney nâdu, the land of ghee.  Nainadu was once a part of Madanthyar church.  The obligatory  mass for the people residing at Nainad was being  offered at St Joseph’s School since 1972.  In 1977, the Franciscan Brothers built a chapel under the leadership of Fr Liguory and mass was offered at this place.  It was with the help of Fr Michael Noronha that the land for church was secured and a presbytery and church building were constructed. The church was blessed on October 7, 1984.  But, Nainadu became an independent parish only on May 10, 1988.   Fr Andrew Rodrigues became the first parish priest.  Fr Ronald Cutinha, the assistant parish priest of Madanthyar, took charge of Nainadu for a few months in 1989-1990.  The electrification of the church and the presbytery were done by Fr Lawrence Rodrigues.  Fr Richard Coelho, the sixth parish priest, built the belfry in 1995, Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in1996; a Cross on the Hill and the Shrine of St Francis Assisi in 1997.
The Franciscan Brothers are running a Boys’ Orphanage here.

During  the time of Fr Denis D’Souza, St Joseph’s School was started  in 1927 at Pilata Bettu but the school building was constructed only in 1934.  Two additional class-rooms, a staff room and  an office room were also built by Fr Richard Coelho.

This church is situated at a distance of 40 kms from Mangalore and 17 kms from B.C. Road and is surrounded by Venur, Nirkan, and Madanthyar parishes.
