HISTORY :
Once Nirkan was a part of Agrar. Fr R.F.C. Mascarenhas bought some plots here and his successor Fr Joseph Menezes constructed a small building, which collapsed. Fr Reginald Pinto built the church in 1920 and a presbytery in 1927. He is known as the Founder of Nirkan church. Bishop Valerian D’Souza separated Nirkan from Agrar and appointed Fr Anthony Noronha as its first resident priest on March 27, 1930. Fr Gaviraghi made Nirkan chapel a unit for his missionary activities. The new church building was inaugurated on February 19, 1957 during the time of Fr Cajetan Francis Soares. It became a parish on March 19, 1957 with Fr Cajetan Francis Soares as its first parish priest. Fr Norbert D’Souza built the belfry. Fr Godfrey Saldanha built the new presbytery in 1979.

This church is situated at a distance of 37 kms from Mangalore to the north east on the Mangalore-Charmady Road, opposite the famous Karijeshwar temple and 13 kms from B.C. Road, and is surrounded by Farla, Allipade, Madanthyar, Nainadu and Vamadapadav parishes.
