HISTORY :

Originally Venur, a stronghold of the Jains, belonged to Taccode parish.  Earlier Fr P. Corti, sj had built chapels at Moodukodi and Perady for the converts.  These were originally served from Naravi.  Since the local Catholics and a large number of converts had settled here, Fr A.F. D’Silva of Taccode initiated the work of building a temporary chapel, which was completed with a presbytery later by Fr A. P. D’Souza. It was blessed by the Vicar Capitular Msgr Victor R. Fernandes, later Bishop on June 1, 1931.

It was served from Taccode until May 8, 1937 when it was made an independent mission station. A part of Madanthyar parish  was added to Venur with the additional charge of Peradi and Moodukodi chapels.  In 1940 a part of Arva was also added to Venur.   Fr R.C. Goveas was the first missionary parish priest.  Fr J.E. D’Souza succeeded him on March 25, 1944.  On October 10, 1947 the foundation for the new church was blessed and main altar consecrated by Bishop Raymond D’Mello on April 28, 1959.  Rev. Fr Gregory Pereira constructed the belfry in 1993 with the bells donated by the Rodrigues family in London.  The present presbytery was constructed by Fr James D’Souza in 2002.

Fr J.E. D’Souza opened the Perady School on September 1, 1948.   St Judes’ Higher Primary School in 1992 and Perady Higher Primary School in 1995 were started by Fr Gregory Pereira.
