HISTORY :
In 1971, the late Rev. Fr. Peter Nazareth, then Parish Priest of Vittal Church, in his letter dated 1 January 1971, sought permission from the late Rt. Rev. Dr. Basil S. D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, to celebrate Holy Masses in the homes of poor Catholic families residing in distant villages. Particular attention was given to the village centres of Manela, Peruvai and Delanthabettu, where the faithful faced considerable difficulties in attending Sunday Masses and other spiritual celebrations due to long distances, poverty and unsafe travel conditions.
Over the years, the faith community at Manela continued to grow. Subsequently, a church and presbytery were constructed, and in 2006, the parish was erected as an independent parish under the patronage of Christ the King by a decree of Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore.
Location:
This church is situated at a distance of 50.6 kms from the Diocesan Headquarters, Mangalore, and is surrounded by Delantabettu and Vittal parishes.
