HISTORY :
This parish was the filial of Moodbidri-Alangar, established in remembrance of the Eucharistic Congress at Bombay in 1964. Originally, there was opposition from the locals to build a church here. A case was filed in the court of law and a judgement was given in favour of the church.
Mr B.A. Saldanha donated this place to the church. It was during Fr Francis X. D’Souza’s time that the church was inaugurated on October 29, 1969 and the presbytery on March 19, 1971. Fr Henry Machado was the first parish priest. Fr Lawrence S. Pais built the belfry. Since the cemetery is situated 1 km. away from the church, a small chapel was built at the cemetery site, and it was inaugurated on July 26, 2001. The Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the church were conducted during the time of Fr Mark Valder and a hall was inaugurated.
Location:
This church is situated at a distance of 35 kms to the east of Mangalore and is surrounded by Gantalkatte, Taccode, Hospet, Alangar and Sampige parishes.
