HISTORY :

Taccode was once a part of Bidrem church, now known as Hospet.  The available church documents show  that Taccode church has existed since 1848.  It was built at the time of the Padraodo-Propaganda controversy by those who broke away from the Padraodo church at Hospet.  In 1880 a tiled-roof stone  building was constructed for the church.   Lightning struck it  twice and the church building collapsed.  There have been thirteen parish priests during the years 1850-1880.

Mr Salvadore D’Souza donated a place where Fr Lawrence D’Souza (1877-1882) constructed the  church building.  During 1880-1920 nine parish priests served this church.  From 1921 to 1962 twelve parish priests manned the parish.

Mr Chinnayya Shetty donated a teak tree for  a cross which was erected on a hill and the hill was named  Cross Hill by Fr Cajetan D’Silva (1921-1924).

When Fr Aloysius Serrao was the Vicar (1962-1970), the new church building and the  parochial house were built and inaugurated on May 6, 1969.  A post office was opened in the  church building and a well was sunk.  Fr Clifford D’Souza (1970-1977) constructed a belfry.  Fr Stany Lobo constructed the presbytery.

Mr Basil Mendes has donated 2 cents of plot to construct a centenary shrine, he and Philips Lobo paid for the belfry and John D’Cunha for the sound system, Felix Noronha donated the statue of the nativity of Our Lady and paid for the altar.
A well was sunk and a school building raised during Fr A.P. D’Souza’s time (1928-1938).  Fr Clifford D’Souza constructed two new shops and the new school building in 1976.
